On December 12, the 2024 GGII Sodium Annual Meeting hosted by GGII was grandly opened at the JW Marriott Hotel OCT Shenzhen Qianhai. The theme of this year’s conference was “Exploring the Market, Integrating Technologies, Building the Ecosystem.” Over 100 senior executives from sodium-ion battery industry chain companies, along with more than 80 application-end companies from the automotive, two-wheeler, and energy storage sectors, gathered at the event.

Jiang Xu, General Manager of Highstar’s Sodium Battery Division, was invited to participate in the conference’s roundtable discussion, where he shared significant insights into the advantages and challenges of sodium-ion batteries in overseas markets and client applications. Jiang remarked, “For sodium-ion batteries to succeed, they must deliver cost advantages to clients. These include not only direct procurement costs but also ownership costs and safety risk costs. Thanks to superior rate performance, longer lifespan, and enhanced safety features, the power cost per unit of sodium-ion batteries is already lower than that of lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, their total lifecycle ownership cost offers additional advantages. Safety, a key barrier for lithium-ion batteries in certain lead-acid markets, is another standout feature of polyanionic sodium-ion batteries. These benefits are precisely what customers value most about sodium-ion batteries.”
